Or perhaps we could make our plot a little more civilized than that:
They should let the Daily Planet "globe-thing" fall off of the building and somehow land on Richard just before he walks into the "Daily Planet Building"
OR---- Maybe when Superman was saving the whole family off of that "makeshift continent" that Lex Luthor made, he could've just "accidentally" let go of Richard and allow him to fall while Simultaneously still holding to Lois (of course) and his Son (the little boy)
WHEW--case closed--we've got ourselves the perfect movie.

Superman doesn't do thing to benefit himself that way. He stands for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Killing someone and making it look like an accident is just not what he does.
