i want to know why alice walker named her book "the color purple"??

Because that's the color of the fields at the end of the story. They had purple flowers and when she saw her sister again at the end of the story, it was like "the color purple" .... a very happy color because of the flowers at the same time.

Historically the color purple has been associated with royalty. I think she was trying to say that even as a slave you can have the attitude of a king or queen and be "royal" in your heart.

In the movie, Shug Avery and Celie were walking in a field of purple flowers and Shug said she thinks it makes God mad when you walk by the color purple and don't notice it.

was it meant to signify that color, especially in dealing with people, is of little importance? i'm not sure if i'm thinking of the same book, though.
