HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO...
BUY A... GAME-BOY ADVANCED SP AND PUT YOUR POKEMON GOLD IN THERE HOOK THE CHARGER UP AND AWAYS HAVE IT ON... BUY A CAR ADAPTER FOR IF YOU CAN PLAY IT ON THE ROAD...
This happened to my Pokemon Silver...
It is not that overtime you turn it on it won't save it is the battery pack won't save anymore
Or
This could be because you used Cheat Codes on this game and fried it sorry Cheating sucks.

ok the same thing happened to me
see your gold game has a clock right well what keeps that clock running while the game is not active is an internal battery well your battery died and your save file was corrupted the most you can do is take it to a jewlery store where they put in new whatch batterys and see if he can fix it if not your games gone youll have tobuy another i suggest pokemon emerald really fun

you need to buy a new pokemon game then. since you have gold version, it must be too old already to work. (no offense)

That happend to me dude last week. The game is broken there is no way to fix it.
