80's Hair Metal is not metal, so White Snake, Ratt, etc... not my cup of tea.
Nu-metal, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, KoЯn, etc... is not something I prefer, but will occassionally listen to.
My favorites are:
Rotting Christ
Aborted
Impaled
Cradle of Filth
Slayer
Immolation
Celtic Frost
Dying Fetus

Pantera, definetly definetly Pantera. They lasted till 2005 I believe until their lead guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot to death. It was a sad thing, but their music represents that hardcore metal you don't get from Metallica (I was surprised to say this myself. Me, the biggest Metallica fan in school. Pantera, in my opinion, is heavier than Metallica.)

I'd have to say Cannibal Corpse for those that are into brutally fast metal with unrecognizable words (which you wouldnt want to understand anyway) which pummel away at your ears and make you want to headbang til your neck snaps off. Also, I have to agree with trailer63, because Tool is one of those very rare bands which make you think alot on their lyrics while still having great albums. And you guys might wanna check out The Red Chord too..some kicka** stuff right therr

Audioslave. They're tight musically and Chris Cornell's vocals are amazing.
