I would like to respond to some of these answers, with my own answer at the bottom-

Stupid Goes Smart says:

I believe there should be a strict screening process and that the individual should pay for it themselves or through private insurance, as it is not a medical necessity.

(I say)> DUHH!! You haven't done much research on this, have you? There has been a process in effect exactly like this for the last 40 or so years- look up the HBIGDA standards or Google "Dr. Harry Benjamin".

BTW- change your avatar's name to "Stupid Says Stupid"- it would be more accurate.

Jennifer Z says:

I'm okay with TRUE transsexuals, but not with men/women changing their natural sex.

(I say)> OMG- where do I even begin on this one? What, may I ask, is natural about being stuck in the body of the opposite sex? Again, this begs the question- what is natural? Natural for you or the person with the wrong body? I think you mean intersexed individuals, and not transsexuals.

An intersexed individual is born with ambiguous and/or unformed genitalia, a transsexual is born perfectly healthy, in a body that doesn't match their internal gender. They get a SEX CHANGE OPERATION so they can be comfortable in a body that matches their internal identity- it's usually never about fetishism, sexuality, kinkiness, or some other kind of paraphilia. Most transsexuals are celibate after their operations, but the possibility is still there for a sexual component to a relationship.

cuteblondecrystal says:

Sex changes are a life-saver. Transsexuals are probably the nicest people you'll ever meet.. Some transsexuals are quite beautiful, you could never tell with some of them, that they were ever male. It is truly amazing!

(I say)> HUZZAH!! BRAVO!! Truth rasies itself to bask in sunlight!!

snotty p says:

I think that a person has to be seriously messed up to go to a doctor and be surgically carved up, mutilated, and sterilized so that they can live their fantasy of looking like ( but not ever truly being) the opposite sex

(I say)> Au contraire, mon frer (French for- on the contrary, brother)- I have taken every known psychological test under the sun and they all show that I am psycholgically perfectly normal for a female, yet I have a male body. I am not psychotic, schizophrenic, depressed, obsessive-compulsive, neurotic, have a high sex drive, what have you.

Being a transsexual is no fantasy- we have to endure possibly far more hate and vitriol than the average person could effectively handle and not break down mentally. And then we come out the other end of the gauntlet of hate stronger, more balanced people.

I have no problem with transsexuals. I wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean that I should discourage others. Some of my best friends are M2F transsexuals.

I can't say I personally understand it, but I think people should be allowed to live as the other sex, or even change their sex, if it helps them to feel at peace with themselves.

No problems with it at all. This is America and a person can do what he or she pleases within the laws set forth. Do you know any hermphodites?

Run, run fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man!

You have to do what you have to do to make you feel comfortable in your own skin.

God may have made them a certain way, but God also made the person who invented sex change technology and didn't strike him with lightning while he perfected it.

If you feel that there's something wrong with the way you are and you want to change it then it's fine with me. No point living your life in the wrong skin if you can fix it.

Do whatever you want with your own body. It would be nice to have you stand up for equal rights too. We lose so much and so many each year to hate and ignorance.
