When is the best time to go to splash lagoon in Erie pa?

We have never been but we are like 3 hours away and where thinking of driving up in the near future for the weekend but every one ive talked to said its a zoo in there way too crowded to enjoy.Any body been and know a good time to go i know not during summer.
