The problem with trying to sucessfully sustain a 'meltingpot' society as President Bush calls it, to many people it's just a cultural friendly word or assimilation. As patriotic as it sounds, people don't want to be the same, they want to be able to live in America with free from persecution, and live towards a better life, while remaining who they are without coming into conflict with their common beliefs..They would be patrioticbut they would rather not have to be 'just American'

A mosiac, which Canada ulitmately boasts as it's mission statement..allows people to be themselves, while contributing to the great diversity which is Canada. Mind you it wasn't always like that we have had out bouts of cruelty to other people, namely the Japanese and Natives.

the idea of mosaic is more friendly and kind. It allows more freedom to be yourself. and less of a feeling like you owe your contry your identity because you 'live there'
