I understand enlisting is pure voluntary these days but how can Bush ask Americans to enlist or encourage others to enlist if he hasn't been able to encourage his own children to fight the war he is so proud of?

Come to think of it not many in Washington who are pushing this war have children or family in Iraq. I believe last quote I heard was 2 had family members in Iraq. That is sad considering how they are all gung ho to send other peoples family out to fight for THEM.......
Maybe I am in the minority but shouldn't the government officials who are pushing this war first push it with their family and encourage them before the rest of the US?
This is supposed to be for a good cause so I would think political families like the Presidents would be the first to show their support by wearing the uniform of the military (any branch).

Guess my children will have to defend the Bush family since they cant actively support the war they start.

The Bush twins should have volunteered for military service if the Bush family is really bent against terrorism. It is leadership by example and the Republicans could have won the recent election.

Your children will not have to defend anything if they don't sign up for it. Unless of course Charles Rangold (D NY) gets his draft legislation passed. Funny, the last time it was put up for a vote, even he didn't vote for it.

Bushes daughters can do whatever they want just like your children because they happen to live in a country where people have fought to secure their right to make that decision.

As it turns out, the military is meeting their enlistment goals consistently during this war. In fact much of the enlistment is re-enlistment. Surprisingly the units with the biggest re-up rates are combat units directly involved with the fighting in Iraq.

Now I ask you, on who's behalf are you speaking?

Well, I won't. =)

And you should stop whining. I'm pretty sure that you have better things to do than to feel sorry for those who volunteered for military service.

The war in Iraq was a bad idea, but that doesn't mean we expect our representatives (or their families) to fight wars for us. We'd just like them to make better decisions. Of course, ultimately we have to blame the man. And in our democracy, that means blaming the general public and ourselves. Ultimately, we all have the power to influence these decisions in this country, because I'm the man, and you're the man, and everyone who can vote is the man as well.

because, there are more ways to support a war then to fight in it, because they have things to do like go to college and learn things to make the world a better place, and because they don't want to, and the best part about our military and why its so great is that it's totally voluntary

Why? They are individuals in their own right. Just because my parents support something doesn't mean I have to, or that my children have to.

Bush is a puppet for VP Cheney, who is CEO of Halliburton- the company who is making major bucks over the attempted rebuilding of Iraq.

Do you honestly think they would make good soldiers? C'mon, they'd be terrible soldiers. You are insulting and trivializing the American soldier with a question like this.

Bravo!! That's the only reason I would like to see the draft come back..so "some" people's kids would have to go too. I'm sure they wouldn't be so quick to go to war then.
