YES, it is EXTREMELY hypocritical!
I have been so angry at both Dick and his daughter for not standing up and being counted... other than to use it when it is politically convenient!
I have no respect for Dick Cheney AT ALL for this very reason, but no respect for his daughter EITHER... she is a traitor to all lesbian and gay kind!

Actually, I know it comes as a surprise, because he is not reasonable about anything else, he has a fairly reasonable positon on gay/lesbian relationships and marriage: http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-GgIFACYzfqWx8YwvtspSWVmWzA--?cq=1&p=4747
The sad thing about this whole administration is they are not really at heart homophobic. They fed hate and divisiveness to get votes per the Rove strategy. And I don't know which is worse being inherently homophobic or cynichally using hate.
But, prior to 9-11 the nutcases were actually making quite a big deal out of how worried they were about the "homo-friendly" nature of the administration. They pointed out how Rumsfeld's top aide was a former gay activist, and several of his staffers were gay. They were concerned that no homophobic regulations had been enacted. That none of the Clinton regulations in this area had been repealed. And they were concerned about the statements and attitude of the vice president.

Yes, it is hypocritical. But Cheney would sell his wife for a buck. I don't really think he has taken a negative position on gays. He may just be going along with the Republican Christian line.

i'm confident he can settle for that "some" Arabs hate the united statesA. yet accepting that and accepting his daughter's sexual decision is hardly an identical situation. so a thoughts as i'm understand his daughter isn't bombing homes or killing human beings. Equating one with the different is sufficient in itself to describe your want for an answer. you've were given to be on drugs or delusional.

It's not ok. It's probably completely politically motivated. He knows what side his bread is buttered on. Because of his political affiliations he can't publically endorse gay love for all, but the whole Republican party is "family oriented" (no pun intended). So, he's in a catch 22 and does what's expected of him. He loves his daughter unconditionally (or so he says) but he won't push the envelope with his party on how she lives her life.

He would have never made it as far as he has politically if he had openly supported gay marriages and the like. He is a hypocrite. But then again, most people in such "high" places are...

I hate to insult anyone but I would have to say that he should be more tolerant to gays and lesbians and support gay marriage if his daughter has a long-time partner in a domestic situation. She is having a daughter. That is his granddaughter. Why should he have the right to marry but be able to refuse someone else's right to marry and have children?

Because he's a blatent hypocrite. Excuse me I spell anything wrong, by the way. In fact, I'm not even sure if he truely accepts his daughter. But, that is just my opinion.

I have never hear him say he was against "gay people living". His wife wrote a book about lesbians on the U.S. frontier.
I don't think he's said "yae" or "nay" on the subject, but if was as anti-gay as you say he is, than why did daughter work with the homosexual "community" to lobby for him? He seems to have a very good relationship with his daughter also.
Don't believe everything you read/hear. :-/
