Do you think drag queens put women down to assert their sexuality or is it just a camp form of light entertainment?
Do you think drag just purports the 'femme' stereotype of the limp wristed darling or is there a deeper underlying social commentary on hetero-normative conditioning?
Is drag a form of satire, a political rights 'protest' aimed at flaunting homosexuality in the faces of bigots or am I reading too much into drag as a performance piece?

I think they are natural-born entertainers, enjoy their work, know that they are good at it and it makes them feel good knowing that they are lifting the spirits of their audience.

I don't think there is much of a deep agenda there. Its spoofing our culture, more specifically our popular culture with overblown caricatures of women saying what we wish we could say, or what in dark corners of the mind we might think.

I really don't think its an intentional put down of women, again I just don't think there is much of a agenda with drag queens. I can see how it might come across that way by some, and some gay guys absolutely hate any form of camp. A little of it goes a long way with me too, but I don't give it much weight over all.

I don't think its an entirely bad thing to be able to see the ridiculousness of our society through the eyes of drag queens.

I have met many transvestites/drag queens in my life. They seem to fall into two categories. (Of course, I'm sure there are exceptions.)

1. It is a lifestyle in which they simply want to be accepted as a member of the female sex. They do it in a relatively subtle way.
2. They are doing it for fun and to entertain! They want people to laugh with them and not at them for once, as people are so stupid as to laugh at the lifestyle in the first place.

YES!

I think it is each of those things for different people and a combination of them for others...

It is something different for each person...

For some it is absolutely rife with social commentary for others is it nothing more than high camp and a chance to cut loose and have some fun.

There is no simple answer as everyone is truly different!

:)

drag queens are cool, they do what they want and dont care what people think thats the best way to be in this world. i think they seek attention but dont we all! and its a way of expressing themselves, maybe you are reading too much into it.
