Does a chemical reaction occur when water is in the picture versus farting in mid air? Methane and H2O, what happens??

Hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans dissolve to some extent in water. Methane does not react with water. But methane is also odorless so it wouldn't make any difference either way. It is a common misconception that methane smells bad but it is an odorless gas, just like nitrogen and carbon dioxide (other common gases in fart).

Hydrogen sulfide in farts enters into solution when it's passed through water, thereby greatly diminishing the odoriferous power of farts.
