I am buying my husband a pea coat for Christmas. I am stuck on what size to get. He is 6'4" 1/2 ....250 pounds and his chest is muscle like. He wears a 3x in his shirts. How would I go about sizing his coat. What does the sizes mean as it relats to L, XL, XXL when the sizes are like 52, 54, 56, 58. Would 58 be likea 5x? Please answer if you really know. Thank you and I appreciate it.

the numbers are measurement of the chest in inches. below are links explaining how to measure. I measure arround the chest just below the arm pits and just above the nipples. I am 6'2", 195 and wear a 44 long or extra long. I would guess your husband is probably a 54 extra long unless he has absolutely huge pectoral muscles. You may want to add 2 to the size if you think he will ever wear the pea coat over a sweatter sweatshitr or suit. that way he will have some breathing room for an extra layer of clothes if its really cold out.

I would get him a 56 because that is what 3x chest is. However you might also need to measure the length of his arms because he taller than most men and some sleeves run short.

Either take one of his suit jackets with you to the men's store or at least get all the size measurements off of it.

The people at the store will then be able to help you.

Lastly, save the receipt just in case.

yes, if possible go by the chest size off one of his suit jackets.

If you are purchasing from somewhere like The Gap or Banana Republic, they have size charts on their websites. I am sure other brands will have something on their sites as well if you are purchasing online.

get a small rope and play like your beating him with it all in fun.have the rope on the floor and say where did this stupid thing come from.then when you are hugging him wrap it around his chest and say man your almost as big as this rope.give him a kiss while you are measuring him then take your tape measure and measure his size.but say enough of this foolishness i got supper ready and when he thinks of food he wont care if you tied a ribbon on his head
