what do you do about family members or even friends who say they'd love to receive something, but when you get things they like or request, all of a sudden they no longer want it, dont have room for it, can't really use it etc etc etc

So far it seems everyones in line with my thoughts and efforts : I was told gift cards are thoughtless, I've bought / returned and not replaced, and I'm at the I don't buy anymore point (never been questioned face to face on it, but since it's my husbands family I'm sure there's talk) and with all the above I've pretty much said sc**w it I don't care anymore. I just don't make issue since the drama queen tends to make all kinds of waves for everyone and I hate killing holidays for one _____
persons bad attitude!!!

Make a donation to a charity in their name. They can't complain about the size, color or wrapping because they'll look like the gargoyles they are.

Stop giving them gifts. If they say anything, say something like "hey, I know you were having trouble figuring out what to do with all the useless stuff I have given you before so I thought I'd give you a break this year." My niece used to be like that. She made a nasty comment about a gift I gave her when she was about 10. She is almost 20 now and is yet to get another gift from me.

To put it bluntly, 'DON'T BUY THEM ANYTHING".
I went through the same thing a few years back, most specifically with a cousin of mine.
It seemed no matter how hard I tried to give her the perfect gift,
she was never satisfied, and she was the one who told me what she'd like to have, so thats what I bought.
Needless to say, I decided to 'not' buy her anything and when she asked me 'why' I'd forgotten to give her a birthday gift' I
simply told her when she becomes less hard to please and more appreciative of what she gets, then, and only then will I buy her something. We never spoke for about four months, but finally
she called me and oppologized for her attitude.
My daughter started doing the same thing, and I told her what
I told my cousin and haven't bought her anything for her b-day
nor have I got her anything for christmas this year.
Seems harsh to some? Tough!!!
YOU have to make a stand, and refuse to be treated with
such inconsideration and ungratefulness..

Take it back and say nothing more about it. Don't offer to get them something else. I know its cliche but its the thought that counts and they shouldn't be requesting gifts anyway (unless they are a child)

You should make a donation in their name to The Human Fund. If that's not enough, invite them over to your place for the Celebration of Festivis and the Feats of Strength

Some people are just really ungracious gift recievers. It sucks, but they are out there. My inlaws are that way. One of my sisters too. I can surprise her with a wonderful gift I know she really needs. She'll look at it, take it and nod and say, "oh, ok."
I just don't get those people!!!
