Keep your grades up! Vet school is HIGHLY competitive and only the best get in. Also, be sure to take lots of science classes and participate in a lot of school clubs and organizations. Colleges like to see well rounded students. Good luck!

Try to take as much science as you can. Biology is a must. If your school offers Zoology, take that. If you don't take chemistry in high school, they'll probably make you take it in college. Also, English and mathematics are important.
For now, I'd get some good books on dog and cat breeds, since these are probably the primary animals you'll be working with, at least for now.
Some high schools have a program that gives you school credit for working after school. The vet that I work for hires high school students from a program like that. You could see if your school offers something similar.
You've got lots of time and volunteer work will probably teach you a lot.

Like someone said...study hard at biology and chemistry. You'll have to get an undergraduate degree first. You may want to pick a college that's also associated with a veterinary school. Most pre-vet students are biology, zoology or chemistry majors in college.
Look up veterinary schools on the internet. They should probably list the pre-vet courses you take during your undergraduate program to prepare you for vet school.
Talk to veterinarians. Interview a few vets in your town and ask what paths they took.

Be careful if your parents suggest you move your bedroom out to the barn. It gets drafty.
Seriously, stay up on your biology & chemistry. Keep working at the shelters or find a vet and work there. Find one who's willing to mentor you and then sometime around your junior year, start looking for schools that offer veterinary studies. Get advice and recommendations from people in the field.

Basically, get the absolute best grades in school you can because if when you get to college you still want to be a vet, getting into a good school is a good place to start, and to get into a good college you need good grades.

you can always go to a local library and check out books on becoming a vet. or if you know anyone you can always ask them. visit a college one day and get some ideas and talk to people there if thats possible. good luck, the animals deserve all the love and care we can give them
