it's not a typo, but no you're not crazy :-) slughorn really does call him the wrong name.

Slughorn calls Ron the wrong name a lot (for example, on page 397 he calls him "Ralph.":) the idea is that Slughorn only really cares about people who are important - either famous (like harry) or incredibly talented (like Hermione or Ginny) or rich, or well-connected, etc. So Ron Weasley is, to Slughorn, so unimportant that he can't even get his name right.

I think, though, that PARTICULAR wrong name - Rupert for Ron - is J. K. Rowling's little joke, since of course it is the real name of the actor. :-)

PS it kind of reminds me of book 4... remember how Barty Crouch kept getting Percy's name wrong? in that case I thought it was showing us that Percy wasn't as important as he thought he was...

It isn't a typo. Slughorn is too dumb to remember people's names and he's drunk. It's a coincidence that she put Rupert.

You are right.Slughorn did say Rupert. But it isn't a mistake on the author's side.Slughorn doesn't bother to rememeber names of students he isn't fond of.Also he is drunk so the chances of him getting Ron's name right are even lesser than they are in the sober case.

You are absolutely right! (I don't know if this is in the American editon only or not...)http://www.mugglenet.com/search/index.php

However...It is Slughorn who says it and Slughorn never bothers to know anyone's proper name unless he likes them, so...it might well be JK Rowling having fun with us. (This observation comes from my daughter.) ; )
