Think about the average amercian student. Their peers either doing better or worse than a particular person. When they come about to a "genius"; they think- this person is insane! One must open the mind to a highway of thought that is ever-flowing, ever-processing.. you can't open a highway and /not/ expect to have car accidents. It's society's ignorance showing. Geniuses see the world in a different way. They see how things fit together, how things work. The everyday joe can't see these things so when a genius makes a suggestion from his viewpoint, they laugh in his face. They say, "Don't be ridiculous, the world isn't round." or "Wash our hands between operations because of nasty invisible things called germs? Have you been in the absynthe again?" or "There's no way we could switch over to renewable energy". The masses can only see past their noses on a clear day. What they don't understand they just label and dismiss.

Good Looking people= stupid
Overly Muscular/large= Moron

In general, when people percieve someone having something in excess, there is a naturaly(possibly jealous) urge to assume there is a large Short coming to counter balance the gift.....sometimes it's true for various reasons.

That may have been true in the past, I don't believe it is happening today. The genius of today, for example Bill Gates,
could never be considered to fit into this category, he is the sanest man our world knows. I would not worry if I were you, if you have a very high IQ and believe yourself to be a genius, do something extraordinary with your talent and don't let negative thoughts influence your possible success.

I think one of the reasons is that people tend to misunderstand or have their own prejudice or have heard/read just one or few cases. It's unfair to assume with such a taboo point of view, I don't know when such an absurd idea originated. Many times I've heard like you said years ago but I didn't and don't care since many geniuses nationwide and worldwide live/work perfectly with their sane minds centuries ago. Thus, some extreme cases were reported but are they officially reported/recorded? I wonder how many of such people in each country belong to this misleading conclusion.
