I noticed yesterday that the freezer was not freezing, the food in the freezer was thawing out. The refrigerator is somewhat cold, but the freezer is just not working properly. Is it cheaper to get repaired or to just get a new one. The refrigerator is about 12 years old.

You can always get an estimate on repairs and then make a decision. My chest freezer once only needed a marr connector to make it work again.

Two possible things one is dust and lint buildup around the coils underneath the refrigerator and needs to be cleaned out. Another problem could be a bad defrost element inside of your freezer. Getting an estimate on repair might be a good way to decide if you want to go ahead with the repair.

First of all, check to make sure the cooling unit is working. It's located in the freezer. If it's working properly, you may have an opening somewher in your freezer. Also, does the freezer door close properly?
Nine chances out of ten, you're better off getting a new fridge because if your current one is twelve years old, it will cost more to have it fixed than what it's worth.

I had this problem last year try defrosting the freezer if it works the part is about 30 dollars to fix.

Most comon reason is dirty coils. Check to see if there is a lot of dust buildup on the radiator coils on the back of the fridge - if so, clean it with a vaccume.

first determine if the fan is working . next determine if the duck work is clear. if both of those are OK then it is most likely the compressor and due to cost you should just buy a new fridge.

I would get a new one ,as it sounds as though it could need re-gasing or it could be the compressor.Does it make any noise when its switched on.and if not have you checked the fuse .
