Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is an acid, usually a strong acid. Its pH value is usually very low (1 - 3) depending on its concentration.
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a base, usually a strong base. Its pH value is usually very high (11-13) depending on its concentration.
Combined, they react to form water, table salt and a fair amount of heat

sodium hydroxide is an alkaline,an alkali is defined as a chemical compound that dissolve in water to produce freely moving hydroxide ion, therefore, sodium hydroxide consist of sodium ion +hydroxide ion
hydrocholoric acid is an acid,an acid will ionizes in water to produce hydrogen ions..In this case,Hydrochloric acid is obtained when a HCI molecule dissolves in water.HCI+H2O--->H3O^+ +CI^-
without the present of hydrogen ions ,a solution will not exhibit the properties of the acid.

HCl is a strong acid, NAOH is a strong base, THey are differnt chemicals with different properties, yes both are corrosive, but on different ends of the spectrum chemically. Better question, what are the similarities?
