Tourism. People love story tales. Here is a real live one and gives billions to Great Britian every year. Everyone wants to be king or wants to marry a prince. It's like the lottery. It isn't just about gambling. It's about being able to dream What if?

To have a Royal family that does not rule is oxymoron, it is like having a president that does not preside. But,habits, customs, and traditions are hard to abandon, if for no other than the proverbial "sentimental reason". So royalty persists, like the horse driven chariots they drive, to evoke the nostalgia of past times.
Considering the intrinsic value of nurturing the vanity and pride of a few people, it would be more generous of nations with royalty to invest most of the royal money on more wort while causes.

Well, Britain has survived 1500 years WITH a Monarchy. Why change it for a presidency, as in a country with only 230 years of history.

As for Italy, Russia and France ... what about the STABILITY which they have had?

And the whole concept of Royalty ... and having a King? And the future, when the King of Kings shall Reign and rule!!

Most royal families in the modern world do not have power. They just reign. There functions are purely ceremonial. Some people love to gossip about royals. As far as their use goes...Do we see any practical use in a graceful figurine or a beautiful picture?
Royal families, or rather what we see of them in public are something like that, just considerably more expensive to maintain.

History and tradition.

The royal family in the UK doesn't exercise power like in the textbooks; they are moreso representatives of their nation(s).

By the way, there are more royal families in the world still. The Dutch and the Belgians, for example, still have royalty.
