Take the cover off of your tank and look inside. There on the back side of the flush handle you will see a nut. it is threaded backwards. Turn to the right rather than the left to remove it. Take all of the parts with you to Lowes or Home Depot and they can assist you with finding the correct one for you.

Broken Toilet Handle

Ugh! I am having the same problem! I went to the hardware store, bought a new handle (with the plastic arm attached) and a chain (mine was nowhere to be found) and I have spent the last half hour trying to figure out how it goes back together. I have the handle and the arm through the hole, and the chain linking the end of the plastic arm to the loop on top of the little plunger thingy, but no success. I must be doing something wrong. The instructions don't help. I didn't even know I needed a chain until I was all the way back home, and then I had to go back to the store. Help! If I could see someone else's toilet and how it works, I'm sure I could fix mine. Anyone know of a website with pictures of the innards of a toilet?

I actually fixed my toilet handle two days ago. All you need to do is go to a hardware store (if this is your first time to do something like this and it's all pretty alien to you) and ask for a toilet handle kit. The whole process of changing it takes about two minutes, if that long.

Also, you might want to bring your old handle with you, to show it to a store clerk. That way, you'll be sure to get a handle that fits perfectly.

Good luck.

Go to your local hardware store (Home Depot is my favorite). All you need to do is get a kit for the toilet. It should come with a handle. not too expensive and has the do it yourself instructions on the package. A lot cheaper then paying for labor for a plumber. Good luck and don't forget to check at the customer service counter if you can't find it. They are really good.

You can get replacement parts from any hardware store. It is a simple repair with just a pair if pliers.

Just follow the instructions on the package. Heck, my kid at age 11 fixed the toilet handle.

You can do it without a problem, If you don't care about getting your hand wet, stick it down in the tank and grab that little chain, loop a bread twisty tie thru the chain and tie it to some string or yarn and hang it over the edge of tank and let hang loose. Grab this and pull to flush until you get it fixed.

Shut off water (if needed) , take off lid, un-screw nut (inside toilet closet) take too hardware store. New handle $2-$3 bucks, guest satisfaction, priceless! GOOD LUCK!

My Super Wal Mart sells these--so if you need one tonight that is where I would go to. But if you can wait until morning, go to any Menards or hardware store. These are not expensive, and very easy to replace. You do not need a plumber.
