I've always had a soft spot for the Macho Man.
I thought the Poffo brothers, Randy and Lanny, both were ahead of their time. Lanny's "the genius" / "the poet" act never caught on. It was truly awful. But Randy had real talent and dedication, and he was truly crazy (not evil).
Other wrestlers, like Bret Hart, really loved Randy because, more than any other wrestler, he opened the door for light-weight talent.
I really liked Randy, but I do understand why the fans were left cold. See, he had an interesting way of talking but he never found a way to connect with the fans. When he spoke, he was really talking to himself. He reminded me of a funny beggar. But her had enough appeal.
In the final analysis , it's the bigger picture that's important here. Randy made it possible for talented people to make it without steroid abuse. Bottom line, he opened the door for people to make it without as much risk, that's a damn good legacy. In the eyes of people like Ray Masterio, "Macho Man" Randy Savage is a superstar.

Yes he was. I have spoken with several wrestlers from the WWE and many have credited Randy Savage with being one of the best in ring partners you could get. He was the heel you loved to hate and the face you could cheer for.

Macho was a superstar. Even though he wasn't a favorite of mine, he drew a lot of heat from the crowds. His ego got in the way near the end of WCW. In fact, a lot of older wrestlers' egos got in the way. He was a superstar, but he, along with Hogan, Nash, Hall, Sting, and Scott Steiner, killed WCW with their egos.

I would say yes. He wore the belt for a good while, and he played his role of jealous husband/boyfriend very well (remember Elizabeth?) Didn't he also team up with Hogan later on, and win the tag-team title? Just going on childhood memories here, not a real big fan so sorry if my info is off.

Oh how funny. My older brother & his friends used to watch wrestling ALL the time! Of course I watched with them. I remember Macho Man being one of the big names back then. He always had "Lady Elizabeth" in his corner. She would be all dressed up in sequined dresses with typical 80's big hair. I remember when he & Hulk teamed up for the championship and their secret weapon was to have Elizabeth come out in her itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini. LMAO!
