Reading these brings me to tears! I see there are quite a few of you who were born in a post-Lennon world. How sad. For those of us, like myself, who were around to see the genius of this man--we were fortunate. But his genius will live forever. Long Live the Beatles
R.I.P. John--thank you for the music

I remember John with much LOVE & Thanks for making our world a better place to live in!!!! I'm a 50 yr old male.
Who among me can forget where you were the day The Beatles played Shea Stadium, let alone where you were "The Day the Music Died"? John's legacy will be here long after we're gone. He & Paul will take their rightful places in history as some of the greatest composers of ALL Time!!!! Long Live The Beatles!!!! I Love you John, And We'll Never Forget!!!!

I remember.

But let´s not forget we are lucky to still have Paul McCartney.

He was responsible for the majority of the great songs of the Beatles. The general rule is whoever sang it wrote it. Hey Jude, Let It Be, Get Back. And he was also the most pioneering Beatle in terms of producing their ever evolving sound.

Yet without Lennon there to strip out the filler, McCartney´s solo career was squandered. He could write a tune, but he had noone to positively criticise the final product. Because of the absence of Lennon´s quality control, McCartney´s ouvre was always less than when he was with the Beatles.

And after the Beatles, Lennon´s solo career allowed him to spend his time agitating people rather than creating great music. Again a great talent was squandered.

So let´s remember not just Lennon but McCartney. Because after 40 years these men remain the most influential and important in the field of popular music.

I have been thinking of him for the past few weeks. What a tragic ending to such an incredible gift to this world. He lives on through his music and our memories of him.

Odd how he predicted that "The Beatles will die in a plane crash or by killed by a loony...." John and Yoko also received a letter predicting that John would be assassinated.... Stranger than fiction. So sad.

what is also sad is every three mark david chapman gets a shot at a parole. i hope they never let him out. john would be 66 right now and probably still making some amazing music. look at what george gave us for his last album, it was genius. "imagine" the kind of music john would be making today.

Too bad so few seem to remember. No big media coverage. But he will never be forgotten. He was a great genius. "Imagine" alone will keep his memory alive forever, especially when more and more people realize he was right.

Well I'm 25 so I wouldn't. I was born almost a year after he died.
However I admire his work and is worth the hype. Lets all go to the jail and brutally kill the guy who shot him.

This is awful to say but every year I remember him only because my grandmother thought that it had been Jack Lemmon who had been shot and killed and my mom freaked out because she idolized John Lennon.
