I am over 55 a VIet Nam vet and Independent with leanings to the Libertarian party, I think they should all enlist if they have not yet served, and put their belliefs on the line of fire, you can not fight the war at home on the net, but the republican nature is to let others do their dirty work! Why soil their hands, those who do not serve their country either in the military or in a community service related job, really do not support their beliefs with action, which makes them cowards. Now to the vets who did, I as a vet salute you.

Oh please sir! Don't you know that there is an old solution for our problem of a shrinking Army. And here it is out of the American Civil War experience.
1863, the Army announced that anyone who could pay the government 300 dollars could avoid the military and stay at home as a civilian.
Now 300 dollars to our ears sounds like nothing for the pure joy of saying no and meaning it to the Government during a war. Now days however three hundred would probably be 30,000. dollar or more. And that is a substantial sum for the average person in America and unrealistically high for the majority to buy there way out of a war. But the numbers of people who could afford it is rather high now a day and the take for the government would be high also from each person who could avoid war by raising 30,000 dollars. The rich would be happy, and the poor would be happier also because the incentives would be higher for those who did enlist.
Money brings joy back to Bush and those who love war and America.

US Army Active Duty 1994-2000...non repulican female, only reason I did not reenlist after 2003 was:
1. I was pregnant at the time
2. Being with my infant child was important to me
3. I refuse to re-enlist now until Bush's daughter enlist
Bushes daughters are of age to enlist, its his war, they are Americans, from a very political family, and if he wants people to enlist maybe he should start by making examples of his families support for the war.
I support the military but not the excuses that have led us to war. Yes we need to help others become a democracy if that is what they want, we need to get terrorists and their activities stopped, and if WMD were found I would have agreed to pursue that. There have been more errors of statements of why we are in Iraq then rights. Every few months Bush and/or his team changes the reason we are there.
Aren't we there cause Sadam wanted to kill his father? Cause Bush is an oil man and has ties to the oil world over there? Bush wants to control the oil?
Before I get my head bit off I am all for war for proper reasons or I would have never joined the military but an honorable reason that sticks would give me more backing then flip flopping the reasons over 3 years, or non proof of why we are there.

I love how people tout the fact they enlisted during times of relative peaceful diplomacy with other nations, using it to bash people who won't enlist now, knowing that they wouldn't either!

I'm a Democrat & volunteered for the Army during Viet Nam when I was 17. The republican chicken hawks are nothing but Neo- COWARDS. They want to kiss their idiot president's a$$ and wave the flag while they let somebody else die in the war that they support with their stupid yellow ribbon car magnets.
I'll gladly listen to what ever any other Vet has to say, but as for the republican keyboard commandos, they can just STFU!!!!
P.S. Heather C... YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enlisted. I did eight years in the Marine Corps; went to some exciting places and did some exciting stuff. Got out in '03 and started working on my degree.
Now, have you enlisted? From looking at your profile (answers and questions), I'm willing to bet that your left-leaning tendencies would preclude you from doing so.
