I'm now 20 wks, experienced minor bleeding and diagnosised placenta previa, what should I do? will this recover itself? will I need to put into bedrest for rest of my pregnancy? what impact will have on my baby?
I'm really really worry! Are there anyone with similar experience to share?

Sorry to hear you have to go through this. Pregnancy is stressful enough, but the added complications can really be overwhelming.

Being diagnosed with Plecenta Previa does mean you will be considered a 'high risk' pregnancy. Your doc will monitor you more closely to see if the placenta moves up (at 20 weeks, everything is still pretty low, and as baby grows and stretches uterus up...sometimes placenta moves away from the cervix, solving it's own problem).

If Placenta Previa persists near delivery, your doc will schedule you a C-section, before your due date.

IF you go INTO LABOR yourself, it can have major repurcussions. If your water breaks, you need to grab the phone and get down in a praying position (like Muslims...face to floor, kneeling with your rear elevated) and call the hostipal to send paramedics. And stay kneeling down. You cannot allow your placenta to begin to delilver.

I don't say this to scare you, but it is best to educate yourself on how to handle your condition. Your Doc should tell you everything you need to know, so you can have a marvelously healthy baby.

Good luck.

I recently watched a show on the Discovery Health channel about extreme pregnancies and there was a woman in the same situation as you who was put on bed rest through the whole pregnancy. They had her in the hospital the whole time, wouldn't let her walk down the halls or shower while standing. They did wheel her down to the pool everyday to counteract the gravity. She did deliver a healthy baby in the end. They said that the worst thing that could've happened was that the placenta would've dislodged followed by the miscarriage. I hope you won't have to go through an experience like that because being stuck in a hospital the whole time didn't seem much fun for the woman.

Well I have been there, the placents can move up, the down side the odds are about 10% it will. Bed rest is almost always recommended as well as minimal excercise and activity. I was told to no longer have sex and if the placenta does not move up, a csection is done. My placenta moved up enough to to deliver vaginally, however I did remain on bedrest until induced at 36 weeks. Make sure a parenatologist or neonatologist is either seeing you or consulting on your pregnancy best of luck.

My husband's niece had this earlier this year (Her son was born in June) She started bleeding at 14 weeks. Sometimes it will correct itself as the baby grows and the placenta will rise back up. If it doesn't then you will have to have a c-section because it could be dangerous for the placenta to come out before the baby. It could cut off the oxygen to the baby.

OK I bled through my entire 1st pregnancy. I went to the ER one night for heavier than normal bleeding and the DR told me that my placenta wasn't attaching to the wall and that I was going to miscarry in the next couple days. I was Crushed! And you know what? I didn't! I bled through the whole pregnancy and had a perfectly healthy 7 lb baby girl! Don't get discouraged! Go see your OB and do whatever he tells you to do, and relax! Good Luck!

If it gets any worse, your doctor will probably put you on bedrest. The good news is that your doctor is aware of it, and will be monitoring you more closely. You should never be afraid to ask your doctor questions, or call him/her when you need to.

if you just started bleeding call your doctor. I bled and was put on bed rest for two days and was just fine. My bleeding was stress related so try to relax and work on staying relaxed....
