Always use spell check. Spelling mistake reflect on the personality of writer. Therefore you must ensure that any material before publishing if properly checked.
I have seen remarks of users pinpointing spelling mistakes. No attention should be paid to these rude people lacking decency.

Correct spelling demonstrates better command of language. Nobody wants to show that they are superior to anybody else. Some people just don't know how to be polite and correct somebody's mistake without humiliating another person.

Spelling things poorly or incorrectly makes you look unintelligent. Internet chat lingo is the lazy and unnecessary and my opinion of someone immediately diminishes when they use Internet chat slang. There is a spell check right at the top of the question or answer box, why not take five seconds to look a little bit smarter, and make life easier for people trying to understand and answer your question.

Maybe they do. However, would it not be nice to know the correct spelling of a word, rather than appear semi-literate? And, if you don't like to have people tell you when you are making mistakes, why not use Check Spelling before you submit your questions?

"Internet lingo" aside, many people find spelling errors annoying. Personally, I take a great deal of pride in my grammar and spelling and find it insulting that so many people take such liberties with my main source of communication.
Also, it's just plain old lazy considering that there's spell check available even on yahoo answers.
Have a little pride in yourself and maybe you'll find that you don't get so many corrections.

It might not be necessarily because he/she feels superior to you at all. I, for one, cannot stand when I read a published work, and I am able to point out the dumbest of errors- it just irritates me! Of course, someone with OCD would probably be irritated as well. (For example, misusing "there" for "their," etc. etc.)

Don't feel offended, unless the signs of hostility are obvious. Also, reading is one of the best ways to improve knowledge of vocabulary and, yes, SPELLING! So read away!

Hope this helped.

The way you write shows that you have a high intelligence level. When you misspell a word or use immature acronyms like prolly or u instead of you, (not that you do that, I don't know) it dumbs you down. I'm sorry you feel that way. Try to not be frustrated with them and maybe learn from them.

in general, poor grammar, and poor writing skills peel about 20 to 30 points off your perceived IQ in the eyes of the working world. some people who have not grown up with text messaging still believe there is a benefit in having good spelling and grammar and correcting people in public forums like this is a way of expressing their angst in the face of slackening language skills. now, didn't that sound intelligent? see what i mean?

No, but bad spelling looks unprofessional & discredits the intelligence of the person posting the question. Especially when you have a spellcheck.
