What type of internet connection are you using?

Without knowing a bit more of the situation, I can't give any specific advice. If you are using dial-up, make sure that the call is being completed. When it is done, a window should pop up on the bottom right hand corner.

If you are using a Broadband connection that is connecting through the ethernet port of your computer, check your modem, if it is external, to make sure that all of the connections are good. Check in Network Connections to Make sure that Local Area Connection is Connected, and doesn't have "Limited or no connectivity." If it does, then there could be a number of things wrong. I suggest that you call your provider.
