A tow truck is pulling a car out of a ditch by means of a steel cable (Y = 2.0 x 1011 N/m2) that is 8.93 m long and has a radius of 0.379 cm. When the car just begins to move, the tension in the cable is 801 N. How much has the cable stretched?

Youngs modulus is equal to stress over strain
Y=Stress/Strain
Stress = Force / Area
Strain = (change in length) / length

You know the stress is the tension in the cable (801N) divided by the area of the cable.
You know the length is 8.93m
You know Y is 2x10^11

Calculate the stress
Substitute the second equation for strain into the first equation, then rearrange the equation so that (change in length) is isolated on one side and plug in the numbers and you have your answer.

After the baby is born have the paternity test regardless. If the baby is yours then it's yours. Now that was simple. BUT, if the baby isn't yours then two things can happen, you can accept the child or reject the child. Either way the baby deserves to have a medical history of his biological father and that side of the family. Adopted children are sometimes scoffed at but they are chosen, sometimes fought for and always wanted. That is more than some natural children can say. So what ever you do, what ever you decide, get the kid a medical history of his biological father no matter who that might be.
