Get a Mac. Easy to use, almost no viruses, fast, secure, stable...you won't regret it. Despite what you may hear from others, there is lots and lots of Mac software out there (including World of Warcraft), and Macs are not particularly expensive -- you can get a Mac mini for less than US$600. I don't recall what kind of RAM iMacs take; check the specs on Apple's website.
If you're switching from Windows, see http://www.apple.com/support/switch101 for some general information, and note that if you really need to, you can run Windows software on a Mac. (You probably won't need to, though.)
Also, save $300 or so by not buying Microsoft Office. Download NeoOffice/J instead ( http://www.neooffice.org ). It does everything MS Office does, but it's free.
Good luck! If you need more advice, feel free to e-mail me at marnen AT marnen DOT org. I've been using Macs for 20 years, and I'll be happy to help.

Do yourself a favor. Spend some time reading PC magazines and gaming magazines. You will learn much from these. It sounds as though you want a gaming machine. Sorry, but gaming machines are expensive. As gaming machines go, go with PC that has the AMD chip/processor. It's all context related. AMD processors are not the best at everything, but when it comes to graphics and games they are in the lead. Intel's processors aren't bad. As far as viruses go, all are susceptible. The only way to keep viruses off is to not put anything on the computer. Stay off the Internet. Don't read e-mail. As far as easy to use is concerned, that is a matter of education. Most stuff is user friendly these days. It's much like whether you prefer Dodge or Toyota or something else. You just have to learn your way around the machine. If you build it yourself, you won't have so many demo's. Most of that stuff can be de-activated.
Lastly, DDR2 can only be used on a specific type of motherboard. That hardware is not compatible with other types of memory such as DDR or previous technologies. You will also note that support for PCIExpress is not backwards compatible. Sorry. If you want to upgrade, get something that supports the latest. You will want DDR2 and PCIExpress on the motherboard.

Both computers are pretty good, if you are doing more graphic designs and music sorts of things, I'd go for a MAC but if its gaming you'd use it for, go for a PC.
-Lots of storage to hold my downloaded torrents - Mac
-A graphics card that plays World of Warcraft - Both
-Fast, able to multitask - MAC
-Not too expenisve - PC
-Easy-to-use - Both
-No viruses - NONE
-No stupid demos (AOL, McAfee, 30-day-free-trial!, etc.) - Mac

Everyting you just mentioned you want is capable in a Mac EXCEPT the price. It's a computer worth buying though, if you get the high end iMac. If you perfer windows than they have a free fix for that too, you just need a dvd copy of XP.
Mac uses a specific memory type, so standard ddr2 will not go into an iMac.
I like the deomic aspect of the '30 day free trial' crap, I hate that too. If you don't want that on any pc, build one yourself.

greater advertising, a much better advertising group, elementary layout, homogeneity. computer is incredibly any computing gadget no longer a mac, and of direction they're going to run the gamut in high quality/value/layout. as a result the only element that Macs truly have over each computer is they could run Apple proprietary utility. there is likewise a picture element that i'm noticing with Macs. with the aid of their branding and advertising Macs are pointed out as "cooler" than their computer counterpart in specific subcultures. i'm because of the fact that greater than a number of you placed down 'virus unfastened' as between the main experts of a mac. That in spite of the incontrovertible fact that has to do with the Unix based working equipment run on the Mac particularly than the Mac itself. If computer purchasers are so prone, they could additionally get a virulent disease unfastened working equipment in between the various Linux flavors.

i would recomend an HP pavillion dv5200, they should be under 1k, its 100G hard drive, 1024mb DDR ram, decent graphics card, and there is no computer in the world that can avoid a virus, it all depends on the antivirus program, i reccomend Avast antivirus, its free and legal, a whole lot better than any norton product..
