My roommate eats baby powder and chalk. Its so bad that I have to hide my baby powder, so she won't eat it. She's been doing this for years so its definitely not pregnancy cravings.

The condition is called pica and can stem from a mineral deficiency. Or she could just be weird. Lots of kids in Third World countries eat dirt for the same reason.

It probably won't kill you but it probably isn't healthy either! Maybe you should see a doctor about this. It is possible you have a deficiency. Or it is possible you just like chalk and baby powder! As far as I know neither is poisonous but in large amounts it might cause problems!

I just did some research on it and she might have something called pica which means:An abnormal craving or appetite for nonfood substances, such as dirt, paint, or chalk. You should try and talk her out of eating it though because it can cause sever anaemia.

Even if she were pregnant this would not fall under cravings. She should seek a mental health provider. I forget the name of the disorder but there is one where the person eats things not designed to be eaten... get her help before she hurts herself.

Maybe it helps her form eating otherthings... Maybe you should analyze her other eating habits because it could be a sign of an eating dissorder... I hope not but if it is you should try to be there for her as a friend.
