are there different qualities of gold?

iam asking this questions because i have seen the word italy on gold clasps, or websites that say india gold..whats the difference quality wise ?? or is it the same thing just from different countries. Also how is gold priced besides craftmanship. I have seen people weigh the gold and give a price whats that mean.?
