Many people have expressed the sentiment that we should impose the death penalty as long as we know 100% that he did it. The problem with this is that we don't. Every year, many people are exonerated off of death row due to advances in DNA technology. How many innocent people, you and me, were killed by the government before the advent of such technology, we will never know. Th truth is there are innocent people sitting on death row right now. Now, it's easy to say that we should have the death penalty as long as you are on the outside and not sitting on death row. But if you were sitting there, knowing you were going to be "put down" for something you didn't do, you might have second thoughts as to whether we should have capital punishment. As long as the law operates through human eyes, which are filled with imperfection and error, the legal system will never produce 100% accuracy. Since the law will never producee 100% accuracy we should not have the death penalty lest we acquiesce in the government taking innocent life. Chew on that.

No. The Death penalty is a holdover form the days of childish revenge. It's not a deterrent and it can be proven conclusively that innocents have been put to death.

My favorite thing to throw out there is this. "One form of state sponsored killing is indistinguishable from another, in the states eyes; Abortion and the Death Penalty MUST be linked, you cannot have one without allowing the other, and you cannot ban one without banning the other, if you do, then you open up value judgments - meaning that the life of a newborn is "worth more" than the life of an adult - who makes that decision, and who says?"

What's amazing to me is how many people feel we need to "Save that baby" but once he commits a crime or two, then it's "Screw him, send him to the chair" - And that most people do not see how UN-Christian that is.....

No, The Government cannot sanction killing. I'm against the Death Penalty, and I'm also a die-hard liberal who is pro-life. Go figure.

My answer is "Yes", if the statutes read that the crime was vicious enough
Many people say that the death penalty does not work. Well I can assure you that a person who is put to death, will never commit another crime .
In the U.S. we have hundreds and hundreds of prisoners, who deserve to be put to death, sitting around playing cards etc. while we tax payers are paying well over forty thousand dollars a year for each of them to lounge around in prison.

I don't believe in the death penalty...I believe that one human (or a group) does not ever have the right to take a life...the worst, most evil criminals should be imprisioned for life until they die of natural causes...that is a worse punishment for them, anyway....no chance whatsoever for parole...also the death penalty doesn't work in a system where innocent people are sometimes convicted for crimes they didn't commit.

Yes. I'll tell you why. We need to have the Death Penilty because it would help America emensly. And we need to start hanging people again. Like the Sexual Preditors. I don't care what anyone else says. The first time they get caught is not the first, nor will be the last time that they do it.

The first time should be the last time for them! I say that we need to hang each & every one of them. And I know some people might not like to hear this, however THEY NEVER CHANGE! I don't care who says otherwise. I know that to be a ton of Liberal garbage.

I hope they all rot in Hell. Getting rid of people like that would eliminate a great threat to socity.

I agree with "MarkD", and like I said before, once the dirtbag has been found guilty (100% evidence),and the death penalty has been issued, then they should walk him or her out of the courtroom and into the next room for execution. this way, we save on taxpayers money (having to house, feed and clothe the dirtbag for 10+ years), faster comfort for the victims family, and in a week or so its old news.

it doesn't make much sense to teach people that it is wrong to kill by killing people. furthermore, most murders are crimes of passion and the death penalty is not a deterent in those cases.

Yes. The severity of the punishment should match the severity of the crime.

Yes, we should have it for social justice. But it should be used rarely and sparely in "rarest of the rare" cases.
