Okay:
Nintendo Ds Lite:
- has a touch screen which allows for more interaction in games.
-It has two screens so it allows for different gameplay than your average one screen
-Clamshell design so that you can close it and not worry about getting the screens scratched.
-Very tiny can easily fit into a pocket.
-Large library of games to choose from.
-Games have Wi-fi so you can play with your buds or around the world
-Devices you can buy for 20 bucks and up that allow you to play movies and music on your ds
-you can instant message others on your ds.
Overall the ds is a great system that is very complex and you can do just about anything you could do with a PSP. They even made an Opera Browser for the ds so you can surf the Web!
-games are about up to 30-35 dollars.
-small cartridge like games that could be easy to lose
-the glossy finish on the ds is very prone to finger prints and can scratch easily.
PSP:
-Skinny and a bit long
-erginomic to the hand
-only available in black in the US
-Large high quality screen
-A ton of buttons and switches more complicated than the ds
-small amount of games to pick from most are violent. The movies are expenisve and so are the games.
-games are cd's and can get scratched or broken easily rather than the ds chip like games that are very durable.
The screen is unprotected so you do have to worry about it being exposed.
- you can play movies without buying extra devices.
-you have to have memory cards with you to store games on unlike the ds.
Really it all comes down to how much you want to pay for your item and how much you want to pay for accessories and games for it and what exactly you want to do on it. IF you want to play a few games and movies and mainly listen to music then go for the PSP. IF you are mainly a gamer and you want to put a little more effort and mony so you can watch movies and music then get the DS. Just go with what you think is right. I personnally want the ds because of the touch screen and the fun games that are out for it. I dont listen to music much either. But I do want to watch movies so that is why I might get this device that lets you watch movies on the ds. Basically the ds is geared for littler people or younger crowd and the PSP for adults or high schoolers. Especially since it is way more complicated to use than the ds.

Hmmm...
It depends on what you are looking for in a handheld system.
PSP is basically exactly what the name says, a small PS2. It has more horsepower and better graphics than the DS. However it is heavy, the games have looooooong load times, and the screen is large and very easy to scratch. Also the analog is not incredibly intuitive.
DS is by far more portable. It's lighter, the screen can't be scratched easily, longer battery life etc.
So where does that bring us? If you are playing at home and don't need to travel too much with whatever you choose then probably get the PSP.
But wait! There's more. The PSP is basically what the Gameboy Advance would have been if GBA had been simply upgraded like what happened with the gameboy color to gameboy advance transition. Nintendo DS on the other hand is a completely different system. The touch screen is very intuitive and makes ports from pc games far easier. Not only that but the DS has lots of other cool stuff like a mic and voice recognition. So in the future I see DS come out with truly visionary games while the PSP will release the same stuff we see all the time. It looks cool now but it will get old.
Being an RPG fan you should go with the DS for sure. Final Fantasy is on DS not PSP and the DS interface is far better designed to handle RPGs. DS all the way.

PSP. no question about it. It does movies, wireless internet, games MP3s and the graphics are far superior. Its like comparing atari with xbox. I know some a couple of guys that got the DS for christmas last year. This year they already have the PSP and are totally amazed. I just bout a PSP for my son the other day. he will be getting it for christmas. I think he will like it. make sure you get the $250 bundle with the 1G memory stick. Target just had them on sale $25 free gift card with purchase. My coworker has one and loves it. It is so worth the money. Careful to use the screen protector as the screen scratches easily. If you buy from EB games and pay $25 extra for the warranty you can get a new one if you accidentally break yours. Not a bad deal.

Since you like RPG games, I say go for the DS.
There are a much larger selection of RPG titles available for the DS than for the PSP.
And, probably a few months from now, you'll be able to go to the internet and watch TV on it.

The DS does not have many games geared for teens and adults. PSP does. I would get a PSP. I have played a DS and strained my eyes on the smaller screen. PSP has a larger and clearer screen.

PSP has the best games.. best quality too. I can't take my eyes off of mine. DS, I have it, but it's more of a kid choice.. Not a lot of games that are real long adventurous types, but with the PSP you can play your games for hours and hours.

BOTH!!!!!!!!
Haha, sorry, I know that doesnt help any, but they are both very good and fun. In the end, you'll have to decide which one Trafficer21 really wants.....but I really like the PSP better because you can do more on it than just play games. Then again, NDS has fun games aswell.....hmmmmm.....decisions, decisions....

hmm i dunno thats a hard desicison
i have a ds, but my dad has a psp
psp got a lot more good action games (which i like) like gta and a lot a first person shooter games, but come on, honestly, the screen is too small for a fps (first person shooter), its too hard to play on a lil system
i just recently got FF3 for my DS, its ******* amazing
i dont know if squaresoft is going to bring out anymore final fantasys for DS, but if they are (which i dont know) then id definatly say you get a DS
if you like RPGS, and you enjoy a challenge, id DEFINATLEY say pick up FF3DS, and get a DS too
if squaresoft does bring out anymore of their final fantasys on ds (you could always wait to see) then id say DS owns as an RPG console (FF3 is ******* amazing man, just wait untill you play it)
