Take Dramamine about 30 minutes before traveling. Don't read while in a moving vehicle. Face forward. If you feel sick, don't look outside. Focus your eyes on something not moving. If you have it bad, a doctor can prescribe something stronger than over-the-counter Dramamine.

i take stugeron (cinnarazine). good stuff but you need a pharmacist to get some. should be taken half an hour to an hour before you fly / sail / drive etc, and thrice a day if you have to.
i also use the wristbands with the little acupressure dots cos i'm getting desperate altho i don't know if they really work. press the inside of your wrist about 2 cm up from the crease at the base of your palm if you don't want to use bands.
other than that: try sweets, sleep and not reading in the plane/car/whatever. fix your eyes on something fairly steady in the distance instead.
lotsa luck!
