Buell is not a real bad bike, nor a particularly good bike. I work at H.D. dealership, and the owners decided to drop the Buell line. Very minimal sales, and they don't do anything really well. They are decent transportation, fun to ride in a primitive sort of way, and worth about half of retail book. That is if it really sharp, low miles, and serviced. Service is expensive, as is all good H.D. products. As with all other H.D.products, the are no 100% AMERICAN made motorcycles, cars or anything else, so don't let that bother you. If the Buell is cheap enough and it fits your needs, buy it. If not the state of the art in bikes is Japanese, if you have money to burn, a good Duc is fun to ride. Ridem all, then decide. .

This is a question of taste and aesthetics as much as performance.

To me, the Buell is an ugly overweight pig of a bike. Others find it their dream of a lifetime. Go figure.

If you are a serious, fast, long-distance biker and you actually want to be able to stop, steer and accelerate with precision and ease, the european and japanese bikes are superior.

If you want to look "bad" and make lots of noise, buy a Buell, and you'll be very happy with it.

You can't really compare them, because they are totally different. Buells are great, have 2 of them, a Cyclone and Thunderbolt. They are great handling machines, fun to ride, great at cornering and handling, and are definitely different. I would tell anyone to buy a Buell, and yes, they are made in USA. Yes, I'm a woman rider too, I started out on the Buell Blast, a 500 cc machine, and moved up to the other 2, which are 1200 cc machines. There are different sizes of Buells now, some for the taller rider too. They are great. Buy the Buell. Been riding for 6 years now.

skip the buell they have recalled every one they made. they have some cool ideas but you just cant produce a bike worth a crap around that boat anchor of a motor. As far as comparing to a jap bike or a Itailan one .FORGET IT. there is no comparison. I have had a 93 CBR1000, 2000 Aprilia RSV Mille,04 gsxr1000, 2001 Zrx 1200r, 2000 RC51. Any one of these bikes will put the Buell to shame. As far as sound my Mille and Rc sound so much better and are a blast to ride. Im Thinking my next bike will be the new Ducati It is only 14995. You will feel like a million bucks on this bike and its going to sound incredible In short, skip the Buell its a real turd

Before I got my FZ1 I researched a lot of our bikes. Depends what your looking for or care about. The buell has a terrible resale value. It looks like a lot of fun witht he unique innovations buell has added. Oil sump in the swingarm, gas stored in the chassis. You ever rode a v-twin? Depends on what kind of riding you do. No faring can be a bit tough on the freeway. Since I got my FZ, it has been everything I ever wanted, check out the FZ1.

For overall quality and reliability, go with the Jap bikes. The Buell's are great hooligan bikes though! V-twin sound and torque, they are wheelie machines. Don't look too comfortable though.

I guess it depends on what type of riding you plan on doing. Stunting? Get the Buell. Anything else, get a Jap.

Also depends on how tall you are. I'm 6'4", and every Buell made is much to short for me. If it's your first bike, go Japanese. Generally more reliable & cheaper to buy than other makes.

Depends on what you want...
If you want pure performance for the buck then a Japanese sport bike is the logical answer. If you want performance and a machine that looks and drives like a team of jewelers and engineers hand built it (and have deeper pockets) then opt for a Ducatti, Moto Guzzi or BMW. If you want a bike that is crude by comparison, loud, looks like it was designed and built by a group of bikers that were sick and tired of America not having it's own version of a sport bike (which is exactly what happened) and not seeing yourself in every college campus parking lot, then Buell is your ride. I love all of these bikes -- but for puriety, wheelies and just the fact that I love the 'in your face' concept of the Buell it would be my choice.

if you want an American motorcycle buy the buell If you want a fast reliable bike buy the jap bike

I am a Harley rider and I don't find the buell to be impressive it's not that fast and doesn't handle that well to justify the cost

but if you want that raw sound the buell is the bike to choose

Buell has it's followers. I don't really like twins in general and especially V Twins. Are there any other 2 cylinder sportbikes around? Ninja 250 maybe? Ducati? The Buell is unique, but most sportbike rider would probably rather have a nice smooth 4 cylinder transverse engine. The Buell just doesn't appeal at all to me, and certainly doesn't have the following that the Jap sportbikes do. Why? The Jap sportbikes are smoother and faster.
