listening to emo music doesnt make you emo.
thats like saying you listen to rap, so now you are rap.
contrary to what the emo stereotype says, being depressed has nothing to do with emo. if you really are depressed you have a mental disease.
and theres already a term that describes people who cut themselves, a cutter. a lot of people hide their feelings, its good to let them out once in a while though, otherwise they just build up in you, and you might just snap.. into crying, or rage..etc.
Relating to MCRs songs.. everyone can relate to one thing or another...
I dont think people enjoy crying, I dont, but everyone does it, it doesnt make you "Emo" if you cry. The only thing it would make you is human. If you really dont feel happy, than its most likely depression.. which is a very serious disease, and you shouldnt think of it as you just being "Emo."
Listening to emo music, doesnt make you emo, because you cant be a genre. So no, you wouldnt be emo if you did that. But real emo music isnt stuff like MCR, and it has nothing to do with "emotional" lyrics or sad music. ;-)

i'm emo/goth convinced there's a large difference and that i'm a blend of both... My dad calls me emish, i'm waiting for that to seize on haha... Emos are tremendous the style rocks alongside with the style in song and obviously emo is created by puzzling lives or pasts even with the undeniable fact that, this does no longer mean we are continually unhappy and depressed we do smile!!

i listen to my chem and alotta other emo bands, and that deosnt mean im emo. the definition of emo is that your depressed and suicidal. emo music is different than an emo person. there's PUNK ROCK and punk ppl. if someone likes punk rock it doesnt mean theyre a punk. emo is the inside, so if you are suicidal and depressed you are emo. if not and u just like listening to emo music, then ur not. its pretty simple

hey. dont even use that term "emo". are you trying to stereotype yourself? if you have problems like you say then i would suggest seeing a counsulor and talking out the things that are really bothering you. dont stereotype youself and listen to that music. it will make things worse. what you wear doesnt define you as anything. you are not emo if you say you are not. that word just angrifies me and the stereotype is quite pathetic
.....oh and i didnt mean to say "dont listen to that music". i meant that if it is making your problems worse then it probably isnt helping but its your life and you make your own decisions...so.....

why do you want to limit yourself to be just another cliche or stereotype? shame on you for TRYING to be be non-conformist, thereby conforming to what society says is "different". you're just another wannabe.
you're not emo. you never were. or at least not a true emo. listen to whatever music you want to and be whoever you want to be.

I love this question and I don't know why.
You can listen to Emo music and dress how you want and still smile and be happy.

If I were you, I'd stop letting popular media define who you are. If you like it, do it. Don't stop doing something that you enjoy because of someone else's opinion.
I used to be depressed alot. Thankfully as you get older it's not as painful.
Good luck!

Listening to My Chemical Romance will make anyone depressed. And obviously cutting yourself didn't get you the attention you wanted, otherwise you wouldn't have told us about it.
