I would start buying now. Your new baby is gonna need a lot of things and quite a few are pretty expensive. However, if you don't want to run the risk of bad luck by buying things too soon, you could always start putting money aside so that you know you'll have enough for what you need. Personally, I started shopping as soon as I found out I was pregnant and 7 weeks ago gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl.
Good luck and congratulations!

I bought like a bib and a toy in the 1st trimester - oh and a couple pregnancy books. Some people consider it bad luck but quite honestly it's because the risk of miscarriage in teh 1st trimester is 25% (regardless of the mother's health or situation) that it just makes it that much harder on the parents if the pregnancy is lost if they start buying stuff and then have to either return it, store it, give it away, or throw it away - it's an emotional time without extra added stress.

I started really going shopping after my 5th month.

Ya know not to scare ya or anything by all means, because i believe it is an old wives tale, but when i was pregnant 4 years ago, i bought items before i was even 12 weeks pregnant, first baby i was excited...but i lost the baby. I was overly paranoid this time around, i am 24 weeks and finally bought my expected baby boy something a week ago!! In between i was able to adopt 2 beautiful twin boys, so i think everything has a weird way of working the way it is intended...good and bad. I say just in case, wait til after the 12th week! Good luck and congrats!!

I just started to buy things and I am entering my third trimester. Alot of people say that it is bad luck, but I think that if you are going to be worrying yourself about bad luck and what not to hold off on buying anything.

I waited awhile because I wanted to know the sex of the baby (boy) and because I thought that my inlaws might might might actually be helpful this time around with getting something for this baby.

I started buying as soon as I was pregnant. Alot of people thought that I might be jinxing myself but my baby is fine and healthy. You can't wait around on everyone else to get the things that you need. If you are like alot of us then you have to slowly get things that you need. Baby equipment isn't cheap either. Go ahead and start picking things up slowly along the way. Don't worry about what people my think or say. This is your baby and your doing what you believe is the right thing. Congratulations and Good Luck with the new baby.

WAIT!! I had a friend that could not and bought things 2 months in to the pregnancy...big things like strollers and a crib. She miscarried and it was really difficult because she had to look at these items daily.
Wait until you start getting into the end of the 2nd trimester. Remember baby showers are so you can get those things you need!!!

I don't think its bad luck. I think it depends on what you want to do.
I personally started buying things with both of my kids as soon as I found out. I knew I wasn't going to find out if my babies were girls or boys until they were born anyway, because I didn't want to know. A lot of women I know wait til they are 5+ months to start buying stuff, but I personally wanted to have everything just about done by then so I could take it a little easier instead of dealing with a big ole belly, swollen feet, and so on while shopping.

I personally don't think it's bad luck. If you want to start buying things when you first find out that you're pregnant, go ahead! Just buy unisex things, until you know the sex of you're baby! Good luck!

i allowed myself to buy one unisex baby outfit when i found out that i was pregnant and then i waited till after my first trimester. it is such a higher risk of miscarriage and i knew that buying things wouldn't change anything with my pregnancy but i just didn't want to take the risk of buying things and then a miscarriage. so of course it isn't "bad luck" BUT if you are nervous about it enough to ask the question just wait. :) time flies!

congrats on the new baby! SD

If you have a big house/apartment and can store things, buy what you can each paycheck. Heck, I bought things BEFORE I was pregnant and stored them. I had so many clothes, socks, and onesies that I ended up donating quite a bit. My friends and family didn't kn ow what to buy for my baby shower though as I had everything...crib set, mobile, lamp, wall decor, baby book, baby bank, blankets, toys, toy box, bibs, bottles, spoons, pacifiers, diaper genie, diapers (they don't go bad, so I just bought them when my husband I were trying), CD's with lullaby's, sleep positioner, etc. I think when I actually did get pregnant (two months after trying) all I needed was a crib, crib mattress, changing table, dresser. I had everything else!
