First thing is make sure you have good mechanics but also throw everyday. If you haven't in a while warm your arm up and then throw 25-30 pitches for about 3 days then go to 30-35 and so on. If you are in High School like i am by the time tryouts start you won't be rusty like most people will and be able to throw in midseason form. Make sure you stretch too, you do not want to tear anything. Weight training would help you out too. Lunges and squats are good for building up leg muscles which is essential to a pitchers power.

Don't do heavy weightlifting as others might have suggested. A pitcher needs to be flexible more than bulky. If you do lifting, make sure its your with your legs, because your legs will tire out faster than your arm. Tired legs lead to long term arm problems. The best way to build arm strength is to long toss. Warm up at a normal distance and then work your way backwards. After a few weeks of long toss, your arm begins to get stronger, so when you move back to a closer distance, its same strength/lesser distance= more powerful arm.

There are many ways that you can bulk your arms to get an effective increase on the speed of your pitch.
1. Lift Weights
Lifting weights, of both upper and lower body, will help maintain strong arms and legs which are both vital for increasing your pitching speed. Try bench pressing, curls with dumbbells, military press, and leg press/squats at first and then build from there. If you are inexperienced in the weight room than please search these exercizes to insure that you are doing them correctly. If these exercizes are not done correctly than you have a chance of hurting yourself. Get a workout plan, stay consistent with your lifting habits (lay out the time of day, days, and so on) or results will take longer to produce. You can find many types of workout plans that would fit you and your time schedule on the internet by doing a search on either Yahoo! or Google
2. Eat a healthy diet
Eating a healthy diet will help you build muscle mass and become more defined in your bicep and tricep regions of your arm. Eat lots of fruits and vegatables. If you are small and scrawny you should eat lots of food because muscle needs fat to build from, if you have no fat you will get barely to no results. If you already have some fat on you then you just need to keep a balanced diet. No donuts, pop, caffeine, and so on and so forth.
3. Supplementing
Depending on your age you may want to try supplementing into your workout plan. Supplementing means the use of things such as Protein drinks / Creotine / Muscle Milk into your diet. These supplements add to your performance. Be careful when taking Creotine and Muscle Milk since they both contain Creotine. Because Creotine is a fairly new supplement scientists and health experts have not determined what prolonged effects this supplement might have on your body. Protein drinks however (100% Whey Protein ONLY) are very helpful in that they give the amino acids your body must have to build muscle and help maintain the muscle you already have. I, myself, would suggest using a protein drink before and after EVERY workout and once before bed. To find out the right amount of protein for you search 100% Whey Protein on the internet using a Yahoo! or Google search engine.
Hopefully this helps, I have spent my time writing this out so I hope it helps.

ok,, 1st u will need and grips to work your hand strenghtand forearm muscles. U should be able to go to anysports store or Wal Mart to get these,, Maybe $5 .
A good warm up helps a lot on flexiblity, not neccessary muscles.
Pitchers get their speed on a pitch from strenght of their legs. if u are right handed, your push leg(right) is on the rubber and u push off w/ it and balance yourself w/ the left leg when it lands
ALWAYS STRECH YOUR SHOULDER,BACK,and LEGS b4 pitching

Throw every day!!!
Workout in a pool if you can. This is more for bat speed, but can also help arm strength.
Throw every day!!!
If you are young, say under 14, do NOT throw curve balls. Stick to just throwing fast balls.
Roger Clemens says he pushes his arm into a barrel of rice over and over. Uncooked rice that is.
Throw every day!!!

Strength training is 3 sets of 8 reps with as much resistance as you can do without straining or tearing something, every other day. Start a little low, and add resistance carefully.
This is DIFFERENT from bulking up.

well if you want pure strength take creatine...I used to be a weak 130 lb kid now I'm like 5 pounds bigger and I push around kids who are 20 lbs heavier than me. it improves your arm strength, your level of energy, your tolerance of pain everything...it should improve your arm strength. if you don't like that work out like a sona' *****. bench weights, do pushups, mack it with the ladies haha just kidding, and chop wood. I do that and I'm built strong for being small. hope that helped!!!

Old school pitchers believed in throwing every day. Leo Mazzone is also a big fan of that.
