It could be a scarlet kingsnake, a coral snake, or maybe a mud snake. If it just has red and black its probably a mud snake. But if your not sure dont mess with it. The coral snake is venemous and a large mud snake could give a painful bite. Get a pic next time id love to see it.

There is a website for the Florida museum of natural history that may be of help. It has an easy to follow guide to the snakes of Florida, with individual pictures of most of the species. Check it out at http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/natsci/herpetology/FL-GUIDE/onlineguide.htm

As a general rule, though, if you don't know what type of snake you're looking at DON'T TOUCH IT. When handling snakes it's never a matter of IF you're going to be bitten, but WHEN.

I don't think it's poisonous! (Don't take my word for it though)

There is something I herd before that tells if a snake is poisonous.

Red over black is a friend of Jack.
Black over yellow can kill a fellow.

There are two kinds of snake I can think of: King snake and Coral snake. The king snake isn't poisonous, but the coral is extremely so.
