I think I'm quitting my job next week for another job. My boss knows I've interviewed, but she thinks I'm going to be there through the holiday season. I dont' need the money though and I'm going home from college and it's not worth the gas for me to drive back and forth. Am I being really rude to quit on her and give her four days advance notice to fill my hours for the next week? And, how should I tell her?

The best way is to be direct about it; if you keep beating around the bush, nothing's going to happen and everyone's just going to get more confused. Confront your boss and say just what you said here, it may sound like a bad idea but you'll feel good once it's all over.

it is politically correct to give 2 weeks notice that you will be leaving. You may have to use them for a reference at some point in your working career and they may mention it and you just might not get that great job you always wanted.

To be professional you should give 2 weeks notice but if that's not possible, give as much time as you can. Whenever I resigned I wrote a letter and would give it to my boss to read. Also, never ever burn your bridges. I would ask for a reference letter. If you can get one, it might help you someday.

It would have been better for you to give her two weeks notice instead of a couple of days.
