for identity theft! This might be just a tad long...please bear with me!
So back in the spring my mom borrowed $ from my g-pa so she could buy a car from his neighbor.
The cops just showed up @ the neighbors house today bc...she had work done on this car @ a local spot, before she went she took her tags off & put the ones that were on it when he sold it to her on the car, took it to the shop, payed with a credit card.
The place called & reported it (for whatever reason, still nto sure how they knew)...the plates came back to the neighbor, so they went to his house.
They told him that a this old lady that my mom used to take care of, who is bedridden called & reported that a credit card had been opened in her name & she didnt do it.
Well that was my mom. She has more than one card & has racked up over $12,000 on this ladies name. They just dont have quite enough evidence to prove that she did ALL of it. The cop said he would rather her just turn herself in,

i feel far worse for you, than i do your mother. tell her what you know, and listen to her side of the story. listen, but don't take sides, or make comments on the situation. if she did it, it will all come out in time, it always does. but she is your mother. be there, if she wants to talk. if she turns herself in, that's an admission of guilt.

Hm. Well, it seems your mom may be in some pretty deep crap right now, assuming she IS guilty of it.
Honestly, she needs to NOT talk to the cops, not admit anything at all and get a lawyer immediately. (But tell her not to pay for the lawyer with the lady's stolen credit card).

I'm not sure what you are asking - whether you should tell your mom that she's being investigated? That's up to you - either way, if she did it, she will be arrested and tried. If you want to help her, you should encourage her to turn herself in and begin restitution towards the people she committed fraud against. Identity theft is very costly and traumatic for the victims, your mom needs to make it right.

Tell your mom she needs to hire a lawyer or get one from legal aid. Let the lawyer handle it from there and don't lie for her.
Good luck

Your mom doesn't need help from Yahoo Answers. Your mom needs help from an attorney. She sure got herself into a mess, didn't she?

Your mom did a bad thing to her life, and she is sadly going to go to jail for awhile.
At least, its possible.
If you do decide to jeopardize yourself, and tell her, I would definitely tell her not to admit it.
The cop is going to try to get her to admit it, and she is going to think that the sentence will be less severe. It wont.
As long as she never admits it to anyone but her attorney shell be fine.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. How would you feel if someone comitted this same offense against you or your mother.

If it's true that your mom racked up $12000 on this ladies credit card, then she committed crime, and deserves to pay for it.
