I want to learn drums but there's no way the noise would be allowed in my house. So I was thinking of getting some basic electronic drums, something I could plug headphones into and jam without bothering anyone.

Do you think they're an acceptable substitute for real drums? How easy are drums to learn? Are they fun to play?

Thanks in advance!

Electric drums will have a better bounce, so if you ever switch to real drums it will be different. But ya, they are a good substitute if you can't have too much noise. Also they are real fun to fool around with the sounds and sound level for the different drums/cymbals of the set.

I think it depends on what genre you want to play because electric drums also have sound effects. And there is no way to match the original rock sound with electric drums. For the noise problem, they are definitely a big help.

I am not a drummer but I am a musician. Some years ago my housemate got an electronic drum set for her boy for Christmas.
I started playing them and could not stop. So yes, they are fun to play and they had several snares and symbols so you could play any drum part you wanted. I loved it.

Not acceptable.

Many cities have studios that rent by the hour where you can play (with or without a band).

Yes, drums are fun.
