My new 06 civic just reach 10,000 miles. According to the manual I am suppose to do:

1)replace engine oil
2)rotate tires
3)replace air filter
4)replace transmission fluid
5)replace spark plugs. Inspect valve clearance
6).replace engine coolant
7)check front and rea break wear
8)check parking brake adjustment
9)check the following items:
-tie rod ends, sterring gear box and boots
-suspension components
-driveshfaft boots
-break hoses and lines
-all fluid levels and condition of fluids
-exhaust system
-fuel lines and connections

I asked my friends and they said I'll be ripped off by the dealer if I follow the manual. The said only need to do the first 3 (oil/air filter change & tire rotation). Is it true?

Thanks

most of those thing should have been done before now.ok,change the oil and filter, grease the front end, rotate the tires, new air filter, you could check the tranny fluid,to see if it needs changing, change the plugs,as long as the valves are working good, you shouldnt have to bother them, flush out the cooling system and change the anti-freeze,check the front and back brakes, you can check the parking brake yourself, and the rest should have attension done on them.dont go to the dealer.you can do the most yourself.

all that seems extreme for 10,000 miles...i'd go with 1 and 2....3 can be checked, may not have to be replaced until 20,000 depending on how dirty it is.

If it was a chevy cobalt, 5 would be at 100,000 miles and 6 would be at 150,000 miles.

What kind of driving do you do? That has a lot to do with it also.
I'd reread that manual and double-check the milege/time intervals.

the newer cars have changed the only few things that i would have them check is the condition of the tranny fluid and the antifreeze i would not have it changed yet cayse the anitfreeze is normaly good for 3 years befor having a fluch and fill done and the tranny fluid should not be dirty not at 10 000 miles but if it is then change it but you can check that your self if you wanted to all you have to do is pull the dip stick on the tranny and just smell it

as a mechanic my self I can tell you that it wouldnt be in the manual if it wasnt necessary.. The reason for all the added things is that the vehicle has reached its completely broke in mileage. and all of the newness of the parts is gone. basically they have seated together and it does create metal deposits in the fluid.. (transmission,Coolant,Oil). You did a good thing by buying a honda because they last forever but you do need to follow the manual pretty closely.. It will last you as long as you want it to..

An LOF, air filter, inspection and rotate are just fine, If the manufacture thinks you should change everything else at 10k, I'd go buy a different car!!

your crazy you better have someone else read that book for you. There is no way they would recommend those services this early if so then you have a terrible car and I would never by that type again. There is no way that 4,5,and 6 are recommended in the manual for this mileage. I would put money on it.

I recommend doing 1,2,3 and the fluid levels listed under #9. The rest are overkill.

You better read it again. Honda does not recommend some of those items until 60,000 & 100,000 miles.
