my sister in law had to use suppositories with her daughter she also had to stick the tip of a qtip up there and move it around to loosen stool. Once the baby is old enough straight prune juice usually does the trick.... the doctor tells you apple or pear juice but those only work in large amounts.

you can give a little bit of prune juice like in a baby medicine dropper. Or get baby prunes and dab a bit on your finger and put just inside the mouth. That should help. Also cutting back ont he amout of formula to water ratio would help instead of a full scoop per every two ounces do 3/4 or half even. Good luck

Just letting you know that it is normal for a baby to go 2-3 days without a bowel movement, especially if your baby is formula fed.

I formula feed my baby girl, and was told that at one stage or another she will likely become constipated. My midwife suggested that if this should happen, I should give her half a teaspoon of brown sugar in 50ml of cooled boiled water. I have also heard from friends that this method works really well! Obviously you shouldn't be giving it to your baby all of the time, because of the sugar content, but it would help for constipation.

My daughter is a month old tomorrow and I had the same question. I asked my doctor and she said that as long as your newborn is pooping somewhere between every one to five days, she's fine. Her internal systems are not mature yet. If there is a poop in there and she seems like she's in pain, you can do rectal-stim. Put vaseline on a Q-tip and wiggle it around in her butt. But be careful, because poop will come gushing out! Have a diaper ready.

I just went through this with my 1 1/2 week old neice, my brother and sister n law was scared to give it to her and I told them to trust me on this, i went to the store bought some gerber apple prune juice and let her drink about a ounce and by that night she was pooping normal again. It really works. I done the same thing with my oldest daughter when she was a infant. My babys doctors is the one who told me to give it to her and it helped her. Don't give him/her the whole bottle of juice just about a ounce.

You really need to ask your pediatrician what is safe to give a 3 week old infant. I don't really think juices are safe for a baby that young. I do think that you will need to switch the formula for sure though, they could be lactose intolerant and you may end up needing a Soy formula. Seriously ask your Dr. before giving them ANYTHING!!!!! Newborns have VERY fragile little systems and juice could really make them sick!!!!!

My son's pediatrician told me to mix 2 ounces of pear juice with 2 ounces of water and it made him go. He may be getting to much Iron in his formula. I would suggest that you call the babys dr there could be something more going on there besides constipation. Good luck!

I have found when i had this problem with my little one in the past warm orange juice or prune juice seemed to shift the problem, however my son wasnt quite so young so i would check with the health visitor etc, just to make sure?

I have also had to change the brand of formula milk my son was on due to this problem as well.

i found cow & gate and farleys milk top notch.

Hope this helps!

what i used for my son was simple..first i changed his enfamil iron formula to enfamil gentle ease. but i couldn't wait for it to get into his system it takes a couple of days to get the "old" formula out and the new in but anyway i found on a website to use vaseline on his butt..it says to put some on your finger and insert it into the babys butt but i just rubbed it on his butt and it worked within like a 1/2 hour he used the bathroom..good luck i remember how painful it was for my son and how he cried good luck

I agree with twopeas03. Your baby might be too small for juices. Call your pediatrician and make sure. they will tell you whats right.
