Speaking from personal expierence [I served a volleyball into someon's face] It is best to apologize. It doesn't need to be fancy or eloborate, just be sincere. If it was an accident they will probably understand.

I've punched many people in the face UN-accidentally.....

If this situation occurred....I don't think I could grasp the paradoxial nature of the situation and respond appropriately, but to repeat my punch again and again.....just like I normally would....
