It should be officially proclaimed the national language and anyone who becomes a citizen of this country should be able to demonstrate a proficiency in speaking English. Besides pressing "1" for English, I'm sick of going to the grocery store and finding everything in two languages now as well. Since we have never declared English as the national language - actually, it should be called American since we don't really speak English here anymore - all it would take would be for someone to introduce such a bill in Congress. Apparently no one has the intestinatl fortitude to do so.

Yes, I am.
I would like to hear, "Press 1 for Commance"," Press 2 for Kiowa", "Press 3 for Cherokee", "Press 4 for Italian", "Press 5 for Yiddish". "Spanish-speaking callers contact your nearest Spanish-speaking embassy". "English-speaking callers press 0 to talk to an operator". All those speaking languages other than the afore, please contact the Assistant to the President, 202-456-2369.
Yes, America should be an English-speaking country. If someone wants to speak another language other than English, move to another country! Does that mean Americans are prohibited from learning another language? Don't be super stupid! Americans are afforded the opportunity of learning any language they want; but, converse in English.

YES!!!
I have written to my Senators and Congressmen about this issue and get no good answers. I will continue to write them until something is done. I want English to be the official language of the USA.
I won't shop at Sears around here anymore. Everything is is Spanish and most of the clerks are speaking Spanish when you walk up to ask them something. They do not always understand what I want!

Amen. I'm a Texas native. I'm sick and tired of seeing Spanish signs everywhere. I'm sick and tired of having to press whatever number to get the language the US should speak, that's English.

Talk about petty. Most countries have multiple languages. Shouldn't the great melting pot of America be open to more? Does it really kill you that other people speak different languages? Are you so intolerant of differences that you can't even deal with pressing _one_ button?

am I getting sick of intolerance? ...yes. After we make America English only, we can make it Christian only, then White only, right? Great idea! Because everyone knows its America's legendary homogeneity that is it's source of greatness!
