I am 5'3' and thin. am i considered petite?

yes anyone smaller 5.5 foot and skinny is petite but don't worry that isn't a bad thing

If you're under 5'4", yes. Petite means many things, not just the size.
Clothes: I'm 5'4" and I have to wear petites because of how my body is shaped on the bottom. If you're between 0-16 and are shorter than 5'4" then you're well suited for the petite section.
"Petite" in nature--You're small, but I'm not sure I would call you petite. Saying "I'm thin" doesn't really scream petite.

I agree with LaurenElyse. It is true...Anything under 5'4" is considered Petite, regardless of weight. You do not have to be "thin" or super skinny only to be considered Petite, because it has to do with your height, not your weight, unlike most of these people are saying on here.
5'2"-5'4" I believe is still the average height for American women, so although you're Petite, it's still average in the USA.

5'4 and under is considered Petite according to most clothing size charts. Also, being thin has nothing to do with being Petite. You can wear size 18 and be petite.

It sounds like it. But sometimes people are petite on bottom but not on top and in reverse as well. What I mean by this is that I am 5' 6" and my legs are petite because they are short, but my torso is longer.

Yes, petite refers to height, not weight. 5'3" is considered petite.

anyone under 5"4 is considered petite, i'm 5 feet & quarter inches & i;m proud of my height, so be happy abt it, wear cute 2-4 inches heels, wear vertical striped clothes, being short is normal doesn't cause any probs so dun be upset abt it

Yes, you are, according to North American clothing manufacturer guidelines. But in most of Asia, you'd be an average-sized person.
