I prefer the avatars or real pictures. I took the time to set it up for my own personal reason.
Since then, I like it becasue I can change backgrounds, clothes, etc and then send postcards to my friends and family.

Now I must take offense at this. I do not have one. Here are the reasons. I read the instructions, i created an avatar, i went to my page, where the dot is for a no avatar, I clicked the other 2 squares. The dot would not take. Then there is a link to click on, It is not on my page. One thing about instructions, to be helpful they must be complete. Exactly which page, exactly where the link is. I am old, and new on the computer, and I love it. I have worked on and off all day with the Avatar., So finally I just deleted it altogether. The silly gray picture is a male. I am not a male. That is gross discrimination on Yahoos part. Don"t you think.

They are such a hassle to set up; so if you have all the time in your hands to create one, then be it! I like avatars, esp those of real pictures and I admire those people for having their real pics. I would definitely do it if it was a snap, if you'll excuse the pun.

I was shocked the 1st time I saw this man on my profile; I thought I was lost! I prefered the old face.

Yes, I agree. I don't know why, but it is annoying. In fact, I skip over questions that have blank avatars because it seems shady.

yea it doesn't give a visual, about the person. So it may give the person's profile a dull look or perhaps they may be annoying and not want to be identified.

YES I hate those profiles. I know that my avatar does not look anything like me. I am old fat and gray. I like to see what people come up with.

Yes, because there are many times when I am wondering if someone is a girl or a guy, you can't always tell by the screen name.
