1980 heads took 5/8 gasketless plugs (R45TS). Corvette heads take 13/16 plugs with the metal gasket. My question is which 13/16 spark plugs are compatible with the HEI ignition. A good starting point for a 350ci, flat top pistons, mild camshaft.62cc 194/150 heads? Any suggestions are appreciated.

already past the will they fit, and drilling and tapping thing, but I do appreciate the input. Just need a little help on the spark plug thing. These days a question like this will blow their mind at advance auto parts. I'm sure someone has ran into this B4! Thanks again.

A good starting point would be as follows :

Ac-Delco part # R44S or #R44SX

Accel part # 0437 or #0437s ( s) suffix = shorty plug for added header clearance . Also available as part # 8197 as (8) pcs. box
of #0437s.

Autolite #85 or #86

Bosch # WR8F

Champion # RJ11Y
RJ12Y
RJ13Y

NGK part # BPR5S or BPR5S-15

DENSO part # W16PR-U

Basically you have lots of choices for a base line plug . I listed
many brands , in case you have a particular favorite , or run into availability problems.
All of the above plugs have the following specs that you need:
14mm thread, 13/16 hex, 3/8 (.375) reach, projected , flat gasket seat, stock heat range , resistor.

Also , since you have an HEI , I would recommend gapping them to .045 , these plugs are gapped at .035 out of the box .
Your combo would also love 1 light and 1 medium centrifugal
advance springs in the dist.(advance kit), upgraded coil , and an MSD 6A or 6AL box.

by the way, sounds like you have a nice little combo.

the plugs will work fine just gap them at .045 instead of .035. I've been running an HEI system in my older Chevy's for years and have no problems with it. if your not that mechanical you will need to take the heads to a good machine and have the mounting bracket holes drilled into the ends of the heads as the older heads did not have them. I'm not sure what the compression ratio was on the 80 heads was but you should notice a gain in compression with the old vetted heads.

Gosh, with all the aftermarket Chevy head sources, I'm wondering why you'd want to use the 1962 vette heads? I mean, do you realize that 9 out of 10 on Yahoo weren't even born in 1962? Wouldn't those heads be worth quite a bit at a Vette swap meet?

I'd sell the Vette heads and buy a good set of modern heads that are built for your motor.

i agree with "geek". try and sell off the hump heads at a swap meet or something and buy aftermarket. it will save you lots of time and headaches.
besides, any aftermarket head will outflow humps(Humps=200-215cfm IN max/ Aftermarket street=anywhere from 225-295cfm IN max), have several different chamber sizes available, are available in aluminum, and are already drilled and tapped for accessories
--by the time you've rebuilt and reworked a set of humps to compair with aftermarket, you've spent as much or MORE money than the cost of brand new aftermarket performance.

At the moment I'm not sure will think on it more. You might try to contact Pace. They have an online source they specialize in Chevy crate motors from mild to wild.
