Find businesses dealing with IT in your area that you are interested in. research them in newspaper, magazines, google, er yahoo, whatever. in your research keep an eye out for names of people and research them. If you're old enough, hang out at the bars or social circles in the area of the IT businesses.
Can you answer the phone? Are you willing to work the night shift? run errands? Help with sales and marketing? Mail delivery? Administrative Assistant work? Anything you can do to get in and be in the business you are interested in is excellent.
As soon as you are employed in any way in an IT Company, keep your eyes and ears open. Just being around it and listening to conversations, you will learn so much about what's important, what's breaking, who are the people who move the company in the right direction. Where is the company weak, where you might be able to make a little difference.
Little by little, before you know it, you'll gain so much valuable expertise, insights and seniority you'll be one more important cog in the IT Company's wheel of success and they'll need you more than you need them.
Go for it. If you truly love it, it's a blast.
