or you simply have a virus

What do you mean "turn on" ? after switching on (when the manufacturer's logo appears, then the computer hungs there?) if this happens, u need to reseat the memory, or check the bios setting (press F1 or Delete) you may also remove the battery and place it back again (this way the bios will set to default)

For long booting; you need to remove from automatic start up all ur unwanted program; i guess you have a lot of programs there. there are some program that does need to start while windows start (it can be disabled).

1. You have a virus, or a load of spyware/adware.

2. You have too many programs on startup. There's a list of programs that start with your computer... meaning when you start your computer and (if you have XP) log on to your account, a bunch of programs open up as well... which slows it down.

Knowing that, you should be able to figure out what your problem is. If you only have like 3 programs that start up with your computer, then it's probably a virus.

You may have a lot of programs running in the background that start up automatically when you start your computer. Press control, alt, delete at the same time to see what is running on your computer.

Get into safe mode F8 then do a virus scan. Next down load a page file defraghttp://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PageDefrag.zip I would do this in the safe mode only.

Click on "start"

choose "run"

Type "msconfig"

Click "ok"

Choose "startup" tab

uncheck all the crap you don't need you computer to load up while starting.

Bunch of unnecessary stuff in your taskbar, that has to load, will just cause your computer to startup slowly.

... the number one culprit to a slow boot is a mangled video driver ... if u have nvidia or ati graphics get driver cleaner pro and follow the instructions ... u can also try bootvis to see whats taking time at bootup ...

you might have too much stuff to load before windows turn on. do you have alot of hardware or software? drivers need to load before you logon. you might want to disable somethings that you don't need.
